ADDAC System: ADDAC219OUT Dual Mono > Stereo

Author: Takazudo | Published: 2025/05/26

This is an introduction to the ADDAC219OUT Dual Mono > Stereo by ADDAC System, available at Takazudo Modular.

The ADDAC219OUT Dual Mono > Stereo is a passive 3HP module that provides a simple way to send signals from your Eurorack system to external stereo gear. It combines two mono inputs (left/right) into a single TRS stereo output, attenuates the modular synth level down to line level, and outputs through a 3.5mm TRS stereo jack. With three independent sections, it can send multiple outputs to external gear at once.

Combining Dual Mono Into Stereo

This module’s function is straightforward — exactly as described above: Combine dual mono into stereo. Attenuate the level and output!

When building a Eurorack system, audio is almost always handled in mono. However, when using other gear alongside it, you may want to send a stereo signal via a TRS cable. While you could use an adapter cable to combine two mono signals into one, having a dedicated module like this makes for a much tidier setup.

For example, among the products we carry, the Wingie2 is a device that features stereo input via a TRS jack.

Please refer to the article above for details on this product. Wingie2 is an electronic instrument that applies resonance-based acoustic processing (a resonator) to incoming stereo audio signals.

When you want to connect such gear to your Eurorack modular synthesizer, this ADDAC219OUT comes into play.

Adjusting Audio Level Differences

The ADDAC219OUT does not just convert dual mono to stereo — it also adjusts audio signal level differences.

In Eurorack modular synthesizers, audio signals are typically exchanged at relatively high voltages of around +/-5V, while external line-level gear (mixers, recorders, audio interfaces, etc.) is generally designed to accept input levels of +/-2V or less. In other words, Eurorack audio signal voltages are too hot compared to most music equipment.

This is due to historical differences in how instruments evolved — most electronic instruments handled audio waveforms at +/-2V or less, while Eurorack modules adopted +/-5V. Because of this voltage difference, you may notice that audio from external music gear sounds too quiet when brought into a Eurorack system.

This module bridges that signal level gap by also attenuating (reducing the level) to an appropriate line level. It is ideal for situations where you want to connect cleanly to external gear or for sound design that assumes stereo signal output.

Headphone Monitoring With a Stereo Mixer Module or Attenuator

The ADDAC219OUT is a module that combines dual mono into stereo and outputs audio through a TRS jack. This can also be used as a simple headphone monitoring output.

Since standard headphones use a 3.5mm stereo mini plug, they can be connected directly to the ADDAC219OUT’s output jack. By combining it with a mixer module that has L/R dual outputs such as the ADDAC713 Stereo Discrete Mixer, or a stereo attenuator like the Meng Qi: DSV, you can set up a simple headphone monitoring environment.

Examples of Gear With 3.5mm Stereo TRS Audio Input

The 3.5mm stereo TRS jack that this module outputs through is commonly found on smaller, gadget-style music gear. Products with this audio input include:

If you want to integrate with gear like this, having an ADDAC219OUT in your setup enables clean and tidy connections.

The reverse of this module — one that splits stereo into dual mono — is also available from ADDAC System, and we carry it as well.

Please check that out as well.
